Fashionable tech: here comes the smart bracelet

These days, all the tech savvy It girls are eagerly waiting for the debut of Intel’s MICA, the It accessory of Christmas 2014. Designed by the team behind ultra-cool concept store Opening Ceremony, My Intelligent Communications Accessory is set to arrive at Barney’s and Opening Ceremony this week.Mica bracelet by Intel designed by Opening Ceremony

So far Intel has been known mainly for the chip inside PCs, (“with Intel inside dadadaaa…”), and MICA is its first serious foray into the luxury world and away from the world of geeks. Coated in 18K gold, with sapphire glass touchscreen curved display, Intel’s smart bracelet is available in two styles: black water snake skin, pearls from China, and lapis stones from Madagascar, or white water snake skin, tiger’s eye from South Africa, and obsidian from Russia. So, yes it will definitely make an impression on the wrist, actually I’d say this is a new, intelligent version of arm-candy ;).

As far as apps are concerned, MICA is equipped with: calendar, messaging, contacts (of course, you can order them by degree of VIPness), alerts and local search powered by Yelp. Nothing revolutionary or fancy here, just useful stuff for the new generation power women. I might just note the absence of any fitness tracking, and we know this is important for this demographic. Of course, this is not an accessory you wear at the gym, but some form of synchronization with other fitness apps would have been nice.

Other tech features include: customizable wallpaper with Opening Ceremony original designs, 2 days battery life, standard micro-USB charging, and remote access, locking and locator for security purposes.

Priced at $495, the smart bracelet comes with a 2 year data plan by AT&T included.

All considered: very tempting….
